I've always believed that to fully appreciate the color of any PRX registration, you have to see it in person. PRX's signature is a killer combination of bracelets. We've covered and described it many times, so here's a quick review. The photo above gives you a good look at the vertical clearance from the top of the case to the corner pockets and bracelet links. To break up the matte steel and give it a bit of shine, Tissot uses highly polished cambers on the case side and ends of the links, as well as a smooth, sliding finish.
The 40mm case is only 10.9mm thin, but no PRX review is complete without mentioning the non-articulated first strap, which gives the watch a 51mm width from ear to ear. This won't be a problem for most as the bracelet articulates nicely, but those with smaller than average wrists may notice some imperfections below the ear. The screw-in display on the back makes it water resistant to 100 meters, so the PRX can't handle some sports either.
The Powermatic 80, which underpins Swatch Group's value-oriented offerings, continues to feature PRX automatics. With 80 hours of power reserve we like to call it "weekend proof". If you wear the PRX Monday through Friday, nine to five, and wear a double purse to exercise on the weekend, the Tissot will be gone on Monday morning. It's decorated with a laser-enhanced "waves of time" pattern visible through the modestly transparent case.
More options is rarely a negative, especially when an option is as good as this one. The Tissot PRX remains an ever-present value proposition, and an incredibly modern inspiration. While an open case isn't critical for most entry-level automation, it can reduce hours even further, especially if it's closed. However, this will be the first "pretty" watch for many, to whom a glimpse of the inner workings may be what sparks a true love of watches, and that can only be positive.

And with all the team crossing our fingers, we hoped it would be mechanical. Lucky person, they probably had a 42mm sub on their list. Available for an affordable sports watch with a built-in bracelet. Fratello called it a "wild" success, and that's an understatement. The PRX chrono should be a valuable member of the family, with interesting and quality construction, while also being a classic and historically significant movement.
The PRX automatic chronograph initially comes in two varieties: one that retains the vertically decorated silver dial of the quartz timepieces, with matching rose gold accents, albeit in a darker shade. Completing the Panda Dialog, Tissot opted for black sub-dials in the 3-6-9 position. A black engraved ring surrounds the dial and shows the attention to detail that went into the design of this watch. The elegant rose gold relay hands reflect the beveled indexes in a colorful and luminescent finish. A white date disc nestles into the cut-out window at 4:30 o'clock, barely distracting due to the sympathetic color of the dial.

The second option is the cobalt blue vertical polished Tissot PRX Automatic Chronograph with a finish that matches its silver counterpart. White accents replace black with white sub-dials and text printing. Continuing the cool tones of this reverse panda PRX are silver hands and indexes that create a modern color scheme. Available in silver radially polished head rings, sub-rings and main registration. I would have appreciated a blue date window instead of a white window here, but I understand the limitations of the low price point as well as the demands of some customers who want maximum legibility.
If you're familiar with the 40m PRX box, there will be no surprises here, so we'll update it quickly. It has an embellished finish, with a fine high embellished bevel running on the work shoulder. A smooth, polished bezel balances the flat sapphire crystal, creating a straight step. The flat, mirrored rectangular pushers are well integrated into the overall design and offer visual interest to the simple case. The crown with the Tissot logo means that it is water resistant to 100 meters for this style watch. In terms of thickness, it's 14.54mm, so it has a different, heavier profile and wearability compared to the slimmer versions of the time. It also weighs 184gm. Many of the original features - the slim profile and the light on the wrist - have been redefined here for a completely different buyer. However, many brands have proven that size (and weight) can also be a bonus when it comes to choreographed versions built on a slim foundation. We don't have to look far at all.
A detail that I can always appreciate is the small, decorative edges on the inside of the binding, because I didn't expect them at this price point. Featuring a half link for a tight fit, the bracelet is finished with a hidden butterfly clasp.
With the restrictions imposed by the Swatch Group on its exports, Valjoux Provence movements are few and far between in new releases these days. The A05 H31 is an exclusive modification of the Swatch Group's Valjoux 7753 movement, with the skeletonized rotor visible through the open case in this configuration. It's a beautiful movement, and the dark gray rotor gives it a modern, industrial appeal, as the mother-of-pearl applied to the machine adorns some of the surfaces. Although the rosette and bridges cover most of the chronograph chambers, I'm glad that Tissot opted for an open back in this case. A power reserve of up to 60 hours is impressive in itself, even considering the price and in line with the extended power reserve featured on many Swatch Group products.
