China, Uae Forge New Deals; Joint R&d Plan & New Drone Sales

Many Western brands and companies have withdrawn from the Russian market due to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, but Chinese companies continue to operate there. Beijing avoided publicly criticizing Russia over the war.

Both Ukraine and Russia are believed to be using DJI drones in combat, although the company maintains that its products are intended for civilian use.

Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Mykhailo Federov wrote an open letter last month calling on DJI to block the sale of its drones in Russia, arguing that Russian troops are "aiming their missiles at DJI products to kill civilians in Ukraine."

The AeroScope system installed on DJI drones makes it possible to detect and track other nearby drones and their operators through special receivers. The concern is that the Russians could use the Aeroscope system to attack Ukrainian drone pilots.

Chinese Drone Giant Dji Suspends Business In Russia, Ukraine

DJI has denied that German retailer Mediamark leaked data about Ukraine's military positions to Russia as one of the reasons it pulled Russian DJI drones used in the war from its shelves.

Last week, DJI said in a statement that its drones are not marketed or sold for military use. It said it "unequivocally opposes attempts to incorporate weapons" into its products.

"We will never accept any use of our products that is harmful, and we will continue to strive to improve the world through our work," the company said.

Another Chinese company, tour company TT Global, reversed its decision to pull out of Russia after being blasted by the Chinese public for bowing to pressure from the West. Russia's use of Iranian kamikaze UAVs has received much attention in the ongoing war in Ukraine. . But if sporadic reports from the battlefield are anything to go by, Russian forces are now deploying Chinese drones against Kiev.

Chinese Airshow Offers Glimpse At Military's New Drones

A journalist, Julian Roepke, posted a photo of Chinese-origin DJI drones on Twitter months after the drone maker announced the drones would no longer be sold to Russia.

Röpcke tweeted: "Russian military relies heavily on @DJIGlobal drones to continue attack on Ukraine. Chinese drones cost €12,000 each.

The DJI drones allegedly used by Russia have been identified as the Matrice-30T model. However, EurAsian Times could not independently confirm the reports.

China Sends Drone On Solo Mission Near Key Okinawan Waterway For First Time

In March, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov posted an open letter on Twitter to DJI creator and CEO Frank Wang.

In the letter, the Russian military "uses DJI products to navigate" missile attacks and urged the company to halt operations in Russia until hostilities subside.

Fedorov also expressed concern about DJI's Aeroscope drone detection technology, which he said Russia is using to monitor Ukrainian drones from a distance of about 50 kilometers.

Ukraine Army Hails Turkish Drones But Ankara Plays Down Weapons Sales

In April 2022, DJI announced that it was temporarily suspending all commercial operations "in light of the wars" in Russia and Ukraine. It is the first Chinese company to leave Russia since it launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

It said in a statement, "Pending an ongoing review, DJI will temporarily suspend all business operations in Russia and Ukraine. We are in dialogue with customers, partners and other stakeholders regarding the temporary suspension of business operations in the affected areas."

DJI categorically opposes the use of products that endanger people's lives, rights or interests. "We will not provide technical support if a military use of our products is identified," the company said.

DJI Global said: "Our distributors, resellers and other business partners are required to follow [our policies] when selling and using our products. They do not agree to sell DJI products for military purposes or to customers who help modify our products for military use.

Iranian Drones Could Make Russia's Military More Lethal In Ukraine

Drones have gained increased importance in the war between Russia and Ukraine. The TB2 Bayraktar drones deployed by Ukraine turned the game in Ukraine's favor in the first months of the invasion. Later, a decent number of American kamikaze drones were sent to Kiev to reinforce the counterattack.

Another turning point in the ongoing conflict is Russia's purchase of cheap and used Shahed-136 drones of Iranian origin, which are widely used by Moscow to target Ukrainian civilian infrastructure.

While both of the drones mentioned above are designed for military use only, warring parties have used civilian drones for intelligence and surveillance purposes; Some are also modified to carry payloads to attack enemy targets.

Even after being recalled by the manufacturer, DJI drones played an active role in the conflict. Despite being officially phased out, there is speculation that these drones are available on the gray market.

Russia Wants Armed Drones From China For Ukraine War, Us Warns Europe

Former Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, General Yuri Paluyevsky, wrote in a book that the DJI Mavik drone "revolutionized" warfare by improving artillery accuracy, as previously reported by the South China Morning Post. Paluyevsky went so far as to compare the Mavic's accuracy to precision-guided missiles.

Not only Russia, but Ukraine has also reportedly used civilian-grade DJI drones to gather intelligence and evaluate missile strikes against the enemy. In June 2022, a Ukrainian Telegram account posted a video of a soldier using a DJI unmanned aerial vehicle to record missile strikes against Russian soldiers.

Ukrainian authorities have accused Russia of using the drones, despite the manufacturer banning them from selling them. It is worth noting that DJI devices are routinely adapted for use in conflicts, despite the Chinese company's assurances that its drones will not be used for military operations.

For example, according to Forbes, US Customs and Border Protection contractor Aerial Armor is deploying Aeroscope to monitor DJI drone operations along the US southern border.

Drone Maker Dji Halts Sales In Russia And Ukraine Citing Anti War Stance, Fears Of Legal Action

The US government last year blacklisted eight Chinese companies for investment, including drone maker DJI, over alleged surveillance of Uighur Muslims.

While China has refrained from condemning Russia's military actions in Ukraine, it has made clear that it will not assist Moscow militarily.
