Longest Gun Shot - Bill Poore of Tuscola attempted to use a modified .408 CheyTac rifle for target shooting at a three-mile range in ranchland near Midland on Jan. 14, 2018.
On January 14, Faqir claimed to have hit a target with a rifle shot at a distance of three miles.

"The last guy (to do it) hit a target at 5,000 yards in Utah and it took him 38 shots," Nachar said. "I hit 5,280 yards with eight shots."

The previous shooting was on September 30, 2017, by a retired Navy SEAL. He held the record for the longest shot of 2.84 miles and was widely reported in the firearms media.
This new standard is yet to be entered into the Guinness Book of Records. But the question is whether the axis of the beggars will be recognized?
He has video footage of the poor and eyewitnesses who were with him at Roy Rollins' farm near Midland to back up his claims.
"I shot a 390-grain bullet at 3,160 feet per second," he said. He used a modified .408 CheyTac by Vestal's Custom Rifles of Bristol, Virginia. The target was 53 inches wide, but looked too small at three miles.
Leblanc: Air Rifles Make Good Trainers For Long Gun Shooters
When shooting at this distance, two things work against the bullet - friction and gravity. By necessity, the barrel of the gun is not right on target, but a few degrees more depending on factors such as air temperature, humidity and wind.
If you're a shooter, calculating these variables and typing that information into your gun is called your "doping."
"That's how long it took to get that shot," he said. "You need a special gun like mine to shoot like that." No sniper or long range guy can shoot that far because his gun doesn't have enough bullets.
The poor man ran a special elevator for the top of the gun, which he passed along the barrel of the gun, so that he could measure seven inches from the center of the barrel to the center of the sight. For a 3-mile shot, he said, the circle climbs 1,000 feet before returning to the ground.
How To Shoot A Handgun Long Range
Colder weather reduces density altitudinal, basically air thickness, as measured above sea level, Poor said. Hot weather also makes it heavy. This affects whether the bullet will fly directly to the target or if it needs to be picked up.
On the morning of the shooting, poor recorded temperatures in the mid-30s to 55 degrees.
"To shoot at low density altitudes, I had to go up a lot," said Poor. "There should have been more ball in the barrel, and the barrel should have had a much deeper arc to hit the target."
The curvature of the earth was about three miles and six feet, so the poor man had to shoot from a high platform to see the target. The spotter looked at the target with binoculars, while the other stood down.

"Yeah, there was actually a guy taking video of the target," Bechara said. "But he was sitting behind the pump jack."
"Gains doesn't really take shots like that with eyes," said Poor. "I don't know why they don't document it."
The Reporter-News questioned Guinness on Tuesday, but no decision was made on whether Poor's shot would hit the target with them.
Editor's note: Nine days after this story was published, Poore was indicted by a Taylor County grand jury on charges of injury to a child. The shooting team broke the previous record by hitting a steel target 7,744 yards in the Wyoming desert. Several hundred yards away

The long-range world record was broken again earlier this month when a team of spotters and shooters hit a 4.4-mile (7,744-yard) target in the Wyoming desert. The marksmanship was organized by Scott Austin and Shepard Humphreys, who run Nomad Rifleman, a long-range shooting school outside of Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
Along with a group of friends, they spent several hours shooting bullets before connecting with the 69
It is not unusual to attempt this many shots when trying to set these types of records. Humphreys noted that the previous record, the four-mile shot by Paul Phillips in 2019, required 69 attempts before the shooter tied it.

The 1.44 percent shooting exposure raises the obvious question: What does that mean in terms of actual shooting? That question is a bit harder to answer because so much skill, engineering, and prep work — more than 1,500 hours, according to Humphreys — required an element of favorable probability (aka luck) to succeed.
The target at which the bullets were fired was made of thin metal and was 10 feet wide and 7.6 feet high. It is also placed at a right angle so that it is more in line with the fall of the ball when it returns to the ground. The dimensions of the target (120 inches by 92 inches) make it 1.54 MOA wide and 1.18 MOA high at 4.4 miles. At 1000 yards it would be a sporting target - basically 15.4 inches by 11.8 inches, but not hard to hit consistently with a good rifle and ammo. But there's a big difference between hitting a steel onto the green and hitting it over 7,700 yards.
To tip the odds of success in their favor, Humphreys and Austin built a customized rifle and sourced components from around the world.

The ammunition used for the record-breaking rifle shot was made by Unknown Gunsmiths of Post Falls, Idaho. They used Barrett brass, H50BMG propellant and CCI135 primer. The .416 had a muzzle velocity of 3,300 fps, and when the bullet hit the target (which took over 24.5 seconds), they hit 689 fps.
For impact shooting, Austin gave the shooter 1,092 MOA of elevation and 17 MOA of left-hold correction. (I did not use the term windage because windage is only one of many variables that affect the horizontal motion of the bullet. Spindrift [the angle of the bullet in the direction of rotation] and the Coriolis effect [the rotation of the Earth, the motion of the bullet The position of the target as in flight] also plays a role in this distance.

When you think about the variables involved in a bullet hitting a wind just above 4.4 mph, you can see where it hits the target, at least with today's technology, it's a matter of probability and chance. . Add in other factors such as changes in muzzle velocity and BC changes from one bullet to another and it becomes even more obvious.
Canadian Sniper Sets The New Record For The Longest Confirmed Kill
An unusual element of this experiment was how the spotter team found ink. They were placed in metal bunkers around the target and instead of searching for them, they listened to remove them. One issue that rears its head when shooting at long distances (a mile or more) is the shooter's ability to target hits, as hits slow down and are easily absorbed without leaving a mark on the ground. are
When discussing cartridge selection for ELR matches, one thing that favors these larger calibers is that bullet dispersion and impact marks are easier to see. But when shooting a beast like the .416 Barrett, shots are hard to place at 4.4 miles. In fact, Humphreys said 90 percent of misses during shots have no visual signature, even when a spotter is placed in the strike zone.
By using their ears and triangulating what many spotters had heard, they were able to get the proper feedback to improve their morning shots.
Humphreys and Austin recognized that even after hours of moving the bullet close to the target, hitting is an unrepeatable event. However, the number of shots they were able to fire at the metal plate is a testament to their equipment and skill.
