Phillips is certainly no stranger to long-range shooting. Global Precision Group Shooters are the reigning NRA ELR National Champions. Additionally, teammate Derek Rodgers is the reigning FTR World Champion and teammate Mark Lonsdale is an international contender.
The three astronauts were sunk. In addition to the three-man crew, the Global Geodesy crew rocked some heavy equipment, including a Garmin 701, a Kestrel 5700, a Labrador chronograph, and an applied ballistics analysis. Two crew members followed the scene's effects, and low-level video cameras sent the crew a live feed.

They spent several hours shooting the arrow before connecting with a group of friends for 69 hours.
It's not uncommon to try multiple shots when trying to set records of this type. Humphries noted that the previous record, set by Paul Phillips in 2019 on a four-mile shot, required 69 attempts before the shooter would hit.
